Ranveer Singh-starrer Dhurandhar has scripted a major box office milestone by surpassing the global earnings of Shah Rukh Khan’s blockbuster Pathaan. The film crossed Pathaan’s lifetime worldwide collection at the end of its 24th day in theatres, as per the latest trade figures released on Monday.
Directed by Aditya Dhar, Dhurandhar has collected ₹1,058.25 crore gross globally. Of this, ₹828.25 crore gross has come from the domestic box office, while ₹230 crore gross has been earned from overseas markets. In comparison, Pathaan, directed by Siddharth Anand, had closed its global theatrical run in 2023 with ₹1,050 crore gross.
The film has also created history in India by becoming the first Hindi film to cross the ₹700 crore nett mark domestically. According to the makers, Dhurandhar has earned ₹706.40 crore nett at the Indian box office, reinforcing its status as one of the biggest theatrical successes in Hindi cinema.
Apart from Ranveer Singh, the film features a strong ensemble cast including Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal, R Madhavan, Sara Arjun and Rakesh Bedi. Dhurandhar is produced by Aditya Dhar and Lokesh Dhar under their banner B62 Studios, in collaboration with Jyoti Deshpande of Jio Studios.
Set in the early 2000s, the film is based in Lyari, Karachi, and follows the story of an Indian spy, Hamza, played by Ranveer Singh, who infiltrates Pakistan’s underworld. The narrative weaves in real-life incidents such as the IC-814 Kandahar hijacking, the 2001 Parliament attack, and the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, adding a layer of political and historical context to its spy-thriller framework.
Dhurandhar was released theatrically on 5 December and has maintained strong momentum well into its fourth week. The makers have already confirmed a sequel, with the second instalment scheduled for release on 19 March, coinciding with Eid. The upcoming film is set to clash at the box office with Toxic, starring Yash.
